Shrewsbury Arrests, Traffic Stops Rise During August

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury police recorded an increase in activity in August, including more arrests, traffic stops and lake incidents.

The Shrewsbury Police Department logged 4,644 total incidents during the month, including 874 calls to 911, 24 arrests and 18 criminal summonses. Officers also handled 480 lake incidents, police said.

Officers conducted 626 traffic stops. Police issued 74 civil fines, 276 written warnings and 15 criminal citations. Another 259 stops resulted in educational verbal warnings.

Police also reported 108 accidents or disabled vehicles, 60 burglar alarm calls, 50 investigations, 48 disputes or disturbances and 25 identity theft cases.

Other August activity included 277 medical calls, 169 suspicious person reports, 65 well-being checks, 20 larcenies or shopliftings, 13 arrest warrants served, five threats or assaults and two OUI cases involving alcohol or drugs.

The department recorded eight vehicle break-ins and six residential or commercial break-ins. Police reminded residents to lock vehicles, homes and businesses and avoid leaving valuables visible inside vehicles.

August Police Activity Compared With July

Police recorded 4,599 total incidents, 990 calls to 911, 18 arrests and 16 criminal summonses in July, according to the department's July statistics.

Total incidents increased by 45 in August while arrests rose from 18 to 24 and criminal summonses increased from 16 to 18. Calls to 911 fell from 990 to 874.

Lake incidents increased from 358 in July to 480 in August. Motor vehicle stops rose from 563 to 626.

Medical calls increased from 241 to 277 while identity theft reports rose from seven to 25. Accidents or disabled vehicles fell from 132 to 108 and suspicious person reports declined from 178 to 169.
