SHREWSBURY, MA — A cultural parade will return to Shrewsbury this week.

The India Heritage Foundation is holding its annual cultural parade on Sunday. Drivers should expect temporary delays as the parade moves from Town Hall to the India Heritage Foundation temple, police said.

The event is Ratha Yatra, a Hindu chariot procession and cultural celebration featuring devotional music, public participation and programs at the temple.

The procession is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Shrewsbury Town Hall, 100 Maple Ave., and end at Sri Sri Radha Damodara Mandir, 226R Grafton St. It is expected to take about 45 minutes to one hour.

Temporary road and lane closures are expected along the route, including portions of Maple Avenue and Route 140, also known as Grafton Street, according to police. Motorists are being asked to seek alternate routes when possible and allow extra travel time in the area.

The event has been approved by the town and will be escorted by Shrewsbury police officers for the safety of participants, spectators and drivers.
