Annual Town Meeting Ends in Record Time
The special and annual town meeting took place at the Oak Middle School last night.
Right before the last vote, former Town Moderator Kevin Byrne thanked current Town Moderator Chris Mehne for the quickest town meeting in years.
In two nights, Monday and last night, the Shrewsbury town meeting members met to discuss the 45-warrant town meeting and with little discussion, approved the remaining articles, except two, which were defeated.
Article 10, which allows for the town to pay certain bills, was defeated because no bills came before the annual town meeting this year. And Article 42 was defeated because a piece of property on Norwood Avenue that the town was interested in buying was no longer available for purchase.

The remaining articles were all approved by a majority vote, with some residents asking for clarifications and concerns about federal and state mandates. The complete annual town meeting warrant can be reviewed here.
During the three-article special town meeting, town meeting members approved the green repairs for the roof and window replacement project totaling $1.31 million at Spring Street School, which would be reimbursed by the state by 50.16 percent making the town's portion $725,000.

They also approved $989,652 to be transferred from Chapter 90 funds to the highway department for unspecified roadway improvements.
The third article on the warrant that was approved moved an easement that was granted to the town from one part of a residential property on Laurel Ridge Lane to another area on the same lot.
