Chief Presents Plan in Response to Jewelry Thefts
Chief James Hester says the law makes it too easy for the sale of stolen jewelry.

Shrewsbury Police Chief James Hester hopes the town will approve a plan he hopes will curb the trafficking of stolen jewelry. According to the Community Advocate, Hester appealed to the Board of Selectmen last week to present a plan that would strengthen Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 140, Section 54, which allow sellers to barter junk, metals and second hand-jewelry.
Hester, according to the Community Advocate, is proposing that the policy chance to require stricter bookeeping by these dealers, including logs that ID the seller, and a picture of the seller with the items.
