Cigarette Likely Cause of Fire in Shrewsbury Green Drive Building
The fire started on the exterior balcony of the second floor apartment. Residents have been displaced.

Cigarettes were likely the cause of a fire that erupted early Wednesday morning in an apartment complex in the Shrewsbury Green Drive Building 12.
The fire started on the exterior balcony of the second floor apartment (12-G) and extended up into the third floor balcony, roof area and apartment itself, said Fire Chief James Vuona.
Crews from Shrewsbury Fire Department controlled the fire with exterior attack hoses to knock down the bulk of the visible fire. Additional crews from Shrewsbury’s Tower 1 assisted with extended hose lines to the second and third floors to knock down the fire that had penetrated the walls and ceilings above where it started.

Investigators saw evidence of cigarette smoking on the scene, said Vuona.
There were no civilian or emergency responder injuries reported. Residents of the third floor apartment directly above the fire have been displaced due to fire and smoke damage to the apartment.
