UPDATED: Commercial Truck Accident Snarls Traffic

Emergency officials are preparing for an "extended operation." Expect delays.

A truck accident continues to hold traffic at a standstill on 290 eastbound near exit 23.

Fire and police officials are still on the scene where a small tanker truck was ruptured late this afternoon. No one has been injured in the accident, according to Shrewsbury Fire Department Officials, and that there was no fire, as had been initially reported.

Crews are still on the scene and delays are expected to continue as they work.

Scanners this afternoon reported that a commercial truck carrying cryogenic products had caught fire on I-290 westbound by Exit 23. Mutual aid had been requested to the scene with traffic delays expected. The incident is being treated as a hazardous materials response.
