Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson said the incident appeared to be intentional. The driver was known to the Shrewsbury Police Department, but said it hadn't dealt with this person since 2019.

The vehicle crashed into the station at a high rate of speed, and went through two double front doors, the lobby, and a wall. It ultimately stopped at the communications center at the front of the vehicle. Chief Anderson said there were three dispatchers working at the time.
