Book Study: The Bully, The Bullied, and the Bystander

The State of Massachusetts enacted legislation (M.G.L. c. 71, § 37O) mandating school districts to create and implement specific plans relative to bullying. Throughout the Shrewsbury school district, faculty and staff trainings are being held to make all faculty and staff fully aware of all aspects of bullying and cyber-bullying as well as best-practice methods for prevention and intervention.

Chris Starczewski (OMS principal) and Kristen Gasper (8th grade OMS assistant principal) invite the Oak Middle School community to a book study about the book titled “The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander: From Preschool to High School – How Parents and Teachers Can Help Break the Cycle of Violence” by Barbara Coloroso. The author clearly communicates the realities of bullying situations from varying perspectives (the bully, the bullied and the bystander).  The purpose of the book study is to explore the differences in bullying and how we, as a community, can come together to stop the cycle of violence.

The meetings for the book study will be held from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. on March 21, April 4 and 28, and May 9 and 23 in the Media Center.
