High School Senior Wins Art Award

Accomplishment: Anna is this year's winner of the Therese M. Bacharz award at the Westboro Gallery. She was selected from a pool of applicants from nearby high schools to have their artwork on display (and for sale) at the gallery from May 15th through May 30th.

Key to Awesomeness: This year, for her AP Art concentration, she did 12 works based on the writings of Dylan Thomas. "He's become the sort of poet appreciated only by anthology editors and Bob Dylan trivia buffs, and I was hoping that my concentration could show him in a less dour, less lonely light," Anna said. "In addition to living in the art room, I write editorials for the school newspaper, am editor of the creative writing magazine, founded the book club, and am a member of the National Art Honor Society.  Next year, I will be going to Smith College, where I hope to continue studying English, French, psychology and, of course, art."
