In Court: Shrewsbury Man Sentenced for Assault with Remote Control and Stool

A Shrewsbury man pled guilty to the assault charge in Worcester Superior Court.

Nector Nivar, 28, with a last known address of 47 Edgewater Ave., Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Worcester Superior Court to several charges relating to an assault on his then-girlfriend, which took place in front of their children.

. He was arrested in March of 2011 and he also threatened to kill her, according to the charges. The assaults took place in front of two small children, according to court testimony.

Nivar pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery and one count of threatening to commit a crime. He had no prior agreement with prosecutors, according to testimony in court.

Superior Judge Janet Kenton-Walker accepted his guilty pleas and sentenced Nivar to between three and five years in state prison, followed by three years of probation. Once he is released, he will have to comply with several stipulations, including no direct contact with the victim.
