Judges Rule on Shrewsbury Cases
A Worcester man assaults his wife at Dean Park and another Worcester man defaces property in town and gets a suspended sentence.

The following cases were heard in this week:
Tuesday, July 5:
Weah Wizner, 24, of 12 Bonfire St., Worcester, was arrested in Shrewsbury on July 2 and charged with possession of a class B drug. The original charge was listed as a subsequent offense, and that was stricken by Judge Vito Virzi on July 5. The case has been continued to Aug. 18.

Javier A. Maldonado, 26, of 656 Denison Dr. Southbridge, was arrested on July 2 in Shrewsbury and charged with shoplifting by asportation and carrying a dangerous weapon. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to Aug. 5.
Chastity Howard, 26, of 46 Wildwood Rd., Dorchester, was arrested in Shrewsbury on July 2 and charged with possession to distribute a class D drug (marijuana), possession of a class B drug (cocaine), resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and assault and battery on a police officer. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to Aug. 18.
Samil Hidalgo, 20, of 22B Marion Rd., Framingham, was arrested on July 2 in Shrewsbury and charged with being a person under 21 in possession of liquor, miscellaneous municipal ordinance violation for possessing an open container of liquor with a broken seal on a public way and having no inspection sticker. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to Aug. 5.
Nicole Tetlow, 29, of 656 Denison Dr., Southbridge, was arrested in Shrewsbury on July 2 and charged with shoplifting by asportation for an incident which occurred at CVS. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to Aug. 5.

Wednesday, July 6:
Andrew J. Deal, 24, 126 Worcester St., Grafton, was arrested on June 10 in Shrewsbury and charged with OUI-liquor and speeding. Deal pleaded guilty and Judge Virzi sentenced him to one year suspended probation and loss of license for 45 days. Deal was also ordered to attend a program and continue with after-care.
Tyler D. Smeltzer, 20, 18 Arnold Rd., Worcester, was arrested on May 23 by Shrewsbury police on five counts of defacing property. Smeltzer was found guilty on two counts by Judge Virzi and ordered to pay $500 in restitution fees, and sentenced to two years suspended probation and 200 hours of community service. The incidents occurred on May 21, when Shrewsbury police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a white import sedan with multiple males in it, smashing windows and possibly stealing items. Seltzer also had possession of liquor, and used a tire iron and rock to deface the property of at least five different citizens.
Edward J. McManaman, Jr., 21, 46 Worthington Ave., Shrewsbury, was arrested on May 23 by Shrewsbury police and charged with having a suspended license, lights violation and defacing property on three counts. McManaman was found guilty on one count and was sentenced to one year in the House of Correction, with 10 days to be served and a credit for time served. He also received suspended probation for two years and was ordered to pay $500 restitution fee.
Courtney Sholler, 19, 6 Orchard Hill Rd., Westborough, was arrested July 6 by Shrewsbury police and charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise. Judge Virzi continued the case to Aug. 10.
John W. Nichols, 39, 255 Vernon St., No. 30, Worcester, was arrested on May 31 by Shrewsbury police and charged with assault and battery. Judge Virzi found Nichols guilty and he was sentenced to a one-year, suspended probation and ordered to complete a batterers program and obey the terms of a restraining order. Nichols assaulted and beat his wife, according to the report, on May 28 in the parking lot of . The assault included breaking her sunglasses and pulling her hair. A separate case on July 6, also heard by Virzi, involving violating the abuse prevention order, was dismissed.
Thursday, July 7:
Luis Martinez, 26, of 241Constitution Ave., Worcester, was arrested June 23 by Shrewsbury Police and charged with violating an abuse prevention order, assault and intimidating a witness. Judge Robert Calagione continued the case to Aug. 8.
