Man Arrested in Clothing Donation Bin

Two men were arraigned yesterday on charges they stole from clothing donation bins in a local plaza.

Two men were arraigned in Westborough District Court yesterday on charges that they robbed bags of clothing from donation bins in a Shrewsbury shopping plaza.

Valdir Barros, 25, of 66 Paul Bunker Dr., Taunton, is charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony and larceny over $250. Marcus Teixeira, 18, of 16 Ellsworth St., Apt. 1, Brockton, faces charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, larceny over $250 and witness intimidation.

Shrewsbury Police said Teixeira was seen by an officer on patrol loading bags of items into a minivan parked near the donation bins outside the Staples store on Route 9 around 1 a.m. Monday. Barros was located later by the arresting officer inside one of the bins, according to the report, which also notes that officers had been told that thefts from donation bins were on the rise, with items taken from the bins sold in bulk for a per-pound price. Judge Robert Gardner ordered both men held on $200 cash bail or $2,000 surety and set a pretrial hearing for Nov. 7.
