Elsie Kaye Gift Shop &amp; Artisan Studio In 2009, on a whim, Holly Kenny took a flameworking class and learned to make glass beads. This sparked a love of glass art and led to the launch her business, Elsie Kaye Gift Shop and Art Studio in downtown Westborough. Holly currently teaches flameworking and metalworking at her studio and is on the faculty at the New England Craft Program in Williamsburg, MA. Holly loves the fluidity and movement of glass and enjoys incorporating metals, enamels and other elements that can change the texture and appearance of the glass. As a result, much of her work takes on an abstract, organic feel. Her work, under the name Elsie Kaye Glassworks, can be found at more than 50 boutiques and galleries across the country. Holly is passionate about promoting emerging local artists by selling their work at her retail shop, as well as helping to foster connections with new and existing businesses in the local area. She is an active member of her community, where she has lived with her husband and two children since 2006.

A Cross Street man accused of beating his 83-year-old mother was ordered held without bail today. Sean C. Connolly, 44, of 30 Cross St., Shrewsbury was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 with injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said in a press release. Westborough District Court Judge Robert B. Calagione continued the case to Dec. 21, Early said. Connolly allegedly assaulted his mother, Paula H. Connolly, on Monday. Shrewsbury Police responded to 30 Cross St., at 10:43 p.m. Monday for a report of an assault on an elderly female, Early said. "Police found the victim with a bloody face and hands. After questioning the victim's son, police arrested him," Early said. Paula Connolly was taken to the University of Massachusetts-Memorial Hospital, University Campus in Worcester for treatment of multiple injuries, he said. Shrewsbury Police and State Police detectives assigned to Early's office continue investigating the incident.
