
A Cross Street man accused of beating his 83-year-old mother was ordered held without bail today.
Sean C. Connolly, 44, of 30 Cross St., Shrewsbury was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 with injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said in a press release.
Westborough District Court Judge Robert B. Calagione continued the case to Dec. 21, Early said.

Connolly allegedly assaulted his mother, Paula H. Connolly, on Monday.
Shrewsbury Police responded to 30 Cross St., at 10:43 p.m. Monday for a report of an assault on an elderly female, Early said.

"Police found the victim with a bloody face and hands. After questioning the victim’s son, police arrested him," Early said.
Paula Connolly was taken to the University of Massachusetts-Memorial Hospital, University Campus in Worcester for treatment of multiple injuries, he said.
Shrewsbury Police and State Police detectives assigned to Early's office continue investigating the incident.
