Man Charged With 'Visciously' Beating Mother is Arraigned

A Shrewsbury man charged with "visciously" beating his 83-year-old mother was held on $100,000 at his arraignment on Friday in Worcester Superior Court, reported the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

, of 30 Cross St., Shrewsbury was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 with injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife) in November.

Connelly pleaded not guilty, according to the Telegram, on the charges of armed assault with intent to murder a victim 60 or older, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon. 

Connelly's mother, Paula Connolly, was allegedly beaten into unconsciousness and cut with a knife after an argument that stemmed from Paula hiding a soda bottle filled with alcohol on her son. The case is continued to Feb. 20
