Police Log: Cat Kills Bat, 'Strange Incidents' Reported

The following information was supplied by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction. All arrests are reported.

Thursday, Aug. 16

2:21 a.m.: Police received a 911 call for lightning that struck a pole on Maple Avenue, and was sparking. The and the Light Department responded; there were live wires across the roadway.

9:07 a.m.: A blocked catch basin was reported at North Quinsigamond and Audubon Drive.

9:08 a.m.: Police were advised of a water grate on Oak Street that was loose and could cause damage to a vehicle if struck. The Water Department responded.

10:59 a.m.: A caller found a wallet on Lamplighter Drive in the roadway and wanted to turn it in. Police left a message for the wallet's owner.

12:08 p.m.: A person in the lobby reported a breaking and entering to an address on Fox Hill Road sometime between 9 and 9:30 that morning. Police went to the reporting party's home and took a report.

12:19 p.m.: A caller from Sewell Street reported having what he believed to be a rabid fox in his yard. Animal Control responded and terminated the fox.

12:32 p.m.: A caller requested an officer to respond to her home on Wachusett Avenue for "strange incidents" that were occurring there. Police spoke to the woman and advised her.

12:38 p.m.: A caller from Smith Lane advised police that an orange kayak floated ashore by his home. The caller said he would store the kayak until someone claimed it.

1:40 p.m.: Police received a report of a female shoplifter fighting with security and staff in the Price Chopper parking lot.

5:27 p.m.: Police advised a rope swing was cut down from Stone Island on Lake Quinsigamond.

6 p.m.: The night manager at a business at White City reported a drunk male was outside of the store harrassing cutomers for money. Police responded and sent the man on his way.

8:11 p.m.: A caller from Edgewood Road reported their cat brought in a dead bat. The caller was going to be holding on to the bat until the morning. Animal Control was requested to pick up the bat for testing.

8:29 p.m.: The owner of a lost wallet, reported to police earlier in the day, went to the station to retrieve the wallet.

8:48 p.m.: A woman went to the Police Department lobby regarding her ex-husband, who she said was loitering on her property. The man was allowed on the property for child exchange only. The man was advised by telephone.

9:47 p.m.: Police received a 911 call for a man who fell off his bike on Main Street and Thestland Drive. Paramedics were requested for cuts and scrapes the male suffered during the fall. He was taken to UMass.

10:23 p.m.: A caller reported people being loud on Coast Guard Island. Police responded; no one was on the island. The noise was coming from Lake Park, where people were playing softball.

Friday, Aug. 17

1:39 a.m.: Police arrested Andrew J. Hutt, 24, of 335 School St., Boylston, on South Street and Hartford Turnpike, and charged him with a marked lanes violation, speeding, operating under the influence of liquor and failing to use care starting/stopping/turning/backing.
