Police Log: Plastic-Wrapped Pigeon, Fishing Hook in Finger

The following information was supplied by the Shrewsbury police department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, Aug. 14

7:51 a.m.: A caller from Greenbriar Drive reported a deceased pigeon was wrapped in plastic wrap in their mailbox. The caller requested police make a log entry.

11:39 a.m.: removed a dead deer from Main Street.

12:38 p.m.: A caller reported a woman walking eastbound on Route 9 with an IV bag. The entire area was searched; the woman was not located.

1:25 p.m.: A caller from Brentwood Drive reported that at approximately 11:30, a male was looking through the window and left immediately upon seeing the resident. The suspect was described as 5 foot 10, white and in his 20s. Police responded and spoke to the party.

4:57 p.m.: A caller had a female shoplifter at White City on Route 9. There was another woman in a car outside. Police will be seeking a summons to charge two women with shoplifting by concealing merchandise.

5:12 p.m.: An officer advised dispatch a rope swing had been removed from Coast Guard Island on Lake Quinsigamond.

6:35 p.m.:

9:04 p.m.: Two women were reported to be having a dispute in front of White City. Police arrested Daina Irwin, 49, of 57 O'Donnell Ave., Shrewsbury, and charged her with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

10:52 p.m.: A caller reported someone rang his doorbell and left. Police checked; the doorbell ringer was gone on police arrival.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

2:59 a.m.: Police responded to Temple Court for the report of a group of people who reportedly entered a vacant house in the area. The people were gone upon police arrival.

7:44 a.m.: Police pulled over a man on Boston Turnpike. Anthony Daniels Jr., of 145 Belmont St., Worcester, was arrested and charged on a warrant for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

10:45 a.m.: Police received several 911 calls regarding a dispute between a man and a woman in front of a store at White City. Several reports were that the dispute was between the store owner and a shoplifter. Police arrested Laurie L. Harrington, 42, of 11 Wheeler Rd., North Grafton, and charged her with two counts of shoplifting by concealing merchandise, shoplifting by asportation, possession of a Class B substance and possession of a Class E substance.

12:29 p.m.: Paramedics responded to Artemas Avenue to assist a mail carrier who had an allergic reaction to a bee sting. The carrier was taken to UMass.

1:07 p.m.: A caller reported a 10-year-old child had a fishing hook in his finger on Edgewater Avenue. Police responded and returned the child to his grandmother.

1:27 p.m.: Animal Control responded to Venus Drive for the report of a possibly sick squirrel and a loose dog. The sick animal was gone upon police arrival and the dog owner was spoken to.

1:31 p.m.: A Kenneth Cole watch was reported lost at the tennis courts by 785 Main St.

4:15 p.m.: Animal Control went to Trowbridge Lane for an injured hawk in the resident's garage. The animal was brought to Tufts.

5:01 p.m.: A caller reported finding a bull terrier mix on Spring Circle. There were no tags on the terrier. The animal was brought to the Animal Rescue League.

5:43 p.m.: Police received multiple calls for a fight at 1 Pineland Ave. Officers and paramedics were requested. Darren K. Redmond, 40, of 3 Magnolia Way, Apt. 326, Peabody, was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

6:59 p.m.: A caller reported a boat was disabled on Lake Quinsigamond.
