Rodgers to Kick Off Annual 5k Road Scholars Run
Well-known marathon runner Bill Rodgers will attend and kick off the 5k Road Scholars Run on Sunday.

Four-time Boston Marathon winner Bill Rodgers will appear at the Fourth Annual Shrewsbury Road Scholars race in Shrewsbury this Sunday, April 10 at 12 noon.
Rodgers is best known for his marathon victories in the late 1970s at both the Boston and New York City marathons. Rodgers won both races four times each between 1975 and 1980. He was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
"We're thrilled to have Bill be a part of our Shrewsbury Road Scholars 5k race festivities,” said Mark Murray, Shrewsbury School Committee member and Road Scholars Race Committee member. “He is a road racing legend who has contributed much to the sport over the last 40 years, a most engaging and gracious champion that our runners and their families will enjoy meeting."

Rodgers is the official starter for the race, which begins at Oak Middle School, and he will also be available to meet participants and sign autographs.
"The Road Scholars race has become an annual tradition that is both a great community event and an important fundraiser for our schools,” said Shrewsbury School Superintendent Joseph Sawyer. “It is a great way for Shrewsbury to kick off the outdoor spring season, and I hope lots of families and community members join us on April 10."

Presenting sponsors of the race include: Dunkin’ Donuts of Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Health & Racquet Club, Avidia Bank, Fallon Community Health Plan, and Price Chopper.
All proceeds from the race will go directly to Shrewsbury’s Citizens for Education Fund (CEF) to purchase classroom books and materials, and to support innovative programs and activities in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. For more information, visit the race website.
