Selectmen Schedule Additional Curbside Pickup for Hurricane Debris

Next week, residents can put out brush for curbside collection.

Selectmen voted to add a yard waste pickup week to help resident cleanup from the .

The curbside collection is scheduled for the week of Sept. 6 to Sept. 11, though that is Labor Day week, so the collection will start on Tuesday instead of Monday.

Yard waste must be in the 30-gallon paper bags and lined up at the curb by 7 a.m. Brush will be picked up if it is no larger than 3 inches in diameter, cut into 4-foot lengths and securely tied into bundles.

For any brush greater than 3 inches in diameter, homeowners should contact a tree removal contractor with the ability to chip brush on site. Homeowners within the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) area also make sure that the contractor hired is ALB compliant.

There will also be a final dropoff opportunity on Satruday, Sept. 17 for leaves and grass at the municipal garage at 211 South St. which will be open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. This drop off is for leaves and grass only and will operate as follows:

  • No brush is allowed in order to comply with ALB restrictions.
  • Be prepared to show proof you are a resident of Shrewsbury (driver's license, etc.).
  • Do not leave any yard waste at the garage when the drop off is closed.

Finally, the fall yard waste pickup program when leaves, grass and yard waste will be picked up at the curb on regular rubbish collection days during the following weeks in the Fall of 2011:

  • Oct. 17 to 21
  • Oct. 31 to Nov. 4
  • Nov. 14 to 18
  • Nov. 28 to Dec. 2
