SHREWSBURY, MA—A candidate in the May town election said he was the target of a "hurtful letter" sent to residents in town prior to the election.

Rashid Shaikh, who is originally from Pakistan and a U.S. citizen, told the Telegram and Gazette that these anonymous letters were found in mailboxes on May 1, the day before the election, and urged voters not to vote for him.
