Shrewsbury Celebrates 3 New Police Hires, 1 Promotion
Special Detail Officers Judy Lam and Peter Fontanez, Officer Anthony Quinlivan and Detective Chad Chysna were honored at the event.

SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Police Department welcomed its three new officers and celebrated the promotion of another at a ceremony last week.
Officer Anthony Quinlivan, Special Detail Officer Judy Lam and Special Detail Officer Peter Fontanez were welcomed to the police force during a special swearing-in ceremony on Friday, Jan. 30. The town also recognized the promotion of Detective Chad Chysna at the event.
A Shrewsbury native, Officer Quinlivan recently graduated from the Marlborough Police Academy after beginning his 22-week recruit training at the Boylston Police Academy.

Quinlivan graduated from the 1st ROC in a class of 43 student officers. The graduation at Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester took place on Thursday.
He attended Shrewsbury High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Nazareth University in New York, where he played ice hockey.

Officer Lam, an eight-year U.S. Army Veteran, has served with police forces in Farmington and Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. She also holds the rank of Sergeant with the UMass Memorial Police Department.
She is certified as a Sexual Assault Investigator, Background Investigator, Field Training Officer, and a RAD Instructor. She also serves as an Evidence Officer, police said.
Officer Fontanez, a Shrewsbury resident for over 20 years, joined the Boston Police Department in 1985, serving in the Anti-Crime and Drug Control Units. He retired in 2022 after a long career and received the George L. Hanna Award for Bravery in 2008.
Lastly, Detective Chysna was promoted to the Detective Bureau. He has served with the Shrewsbury Police Department since 2003 and has been involved in hundreds of complex investigations.
He worked as the Elder Services Officer and spent 18 years as a K-9 Officer with K-9s Buzzy and Hunter. He has also worked as a firefighter, dispatcher, and police officer elsewhere prior to joining the Shrewsbury Police Department.
