The Shrewsbury gymnastics team did anything but take a holiday yesterday morning as they performed brilliantly as a group to defeat the Hudson Hawks 137.9-126.7 at Hudson High School.
The Colonials, rebounding from Saturday's loss to Algonquin, looked like a different team yesterday as they recorded many personal best performances en route to their victory.
"We did much better today," said head coach Bill Martin. "We are traditionally strong on the beam and that was evident today. We earned three 9.1 scores on that event. We are getting more consistent."

Sophomore Megan Yuen proved consistency was the key as she recorded her highest all-around total of the season (35.3) just missing winning the all-around by one tenth of a point to her captain, Jess Mushinsky (35.4). Yuen's 9.1 score on the beam was her highest of the season, and tied for second place on that event with Mushinsky, and teammate Emily Graves.
Only Hudson's Kirsten Lally posted a higher score than the Colonial trio on the beam turning in a 9.3 routine.

"I'm really happy," Yuen said minutes after finishing her awesome meet. "It's my highest all-around total of the season, and I'm really proud of my team, too. We were really solid today."
Other outstanding performances for Shrewsbury included Mushinsky on the floor (9.2), beam (9.1), vault (8.2), and bars (8.9), Graves on the beam (9.1), bars (8.3), vault (8.4), and Sabrina Knight on the floor (8.6) and the beam (8.6).
Also chipping in impressive scores were Caroline Konz on the beam (8.3) and Cayla Parker on the bars (8.4) and floor (7.9).
According to captain Callie Demartini, who contributed great scores on the floor and the vault, "I thought we did really good as a whole team. We are coming together as a team more, and we are working towards getting our team total closer to a 140."
Leading Hudson was sophomore captain Lally who scored a 33.7 overall, good enough for third place in the all-around.
The Colonials hope to better their team record and continue to improve when they face Wachusett Regional at home on Saturday.
