Shrewsbury Home Damaged By Tree In Strong Storm: Firefighters

A line of strong thunderstorms swept across Massachusetts on Tuesday evening, bringing gusts near 60 mph.

SHREWSBURY, MA — A strong line of storms Tuesday evening brought damage to the Shrewsbury area, according to local firefighters.

Shrewsbury firefighters responded to a home Tuesday night after a large tree limb fell and partially damaged the home, according to the department.

"Strong winds could cause minor damage such as downed branches, winds in excess of 40 mph. E1 responded to a fallen tree which struck the home. No one was injured, and the home suffered minor damage," the department said in a Facebook post near 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The storms swept into Worcester County near 7 p.m. with lighting, thunder, wind gusts and some rain. However, more severe storms tracked to the south along the Connecticut and Rhode Island borders, according to the National Weather Service. Westover Air Force Base near Springfield measured a 59 mph gust at around 6 p.m.
