Shrewsbury Prepares for Hurricane Irene
SELCO and the town departments coordinate efforts for the impending storm.

The various and Departments are concluding preparations for a coordinated response to Hurricane Irene which is forecasted to make landfall in Southern New England beginning during the day on Sunday and continuing into Monday. An Emergency Operations Center will be activated on Sunday morning and additional personnel and equipment have been mobilized to prepare for the potential of downed limbs and temporary power outages. Generators and other town equipment are ready for deployment on Sunday as necessary. Town officials are coordinating their efforts with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
While there is the potential for heavy and sustained rain and significant wind gusts, residents are asked to remain in their homes with sufficient food and supplies during the peak hours of the storm. Should the need arise, the Town is prepared to open an emergency shelter. Residents will be notified if an emergency shelter is opened. Residents are also reminded to check channel 26 as well as the Town's website, for storm-related notices.
