Shrewsbury Price Chopper Helps Rebuild Paton’s Playground
Fridays in May, pizza proceeds will benefit playground rebuild effort.
Every Friday in May, in Shrewsbury will donate $2 of each deli pizza sold to help rebuild the Paton School playground in the center of town.
The school’s playground was demolished due to safety concerns this winter, and the school’s PTO is mounting multiple efforts to raise funds for a new play space for students and the greater Shrewsbury community.
“Supporting this initiative is something we are thrilled to do," says Tammie Sullivan, who managed the Shrewsbury Price Chopper from its grand opening in November of last year until this week. “For me, there is no greater reward than helping those elementary students get their playground back.”

Sullivan arranged the pizza program before her departure to manage a Price Chopper store in Marlborough.
Price Chopper has a history of supporting Shrewsbury schools. In April, the company was a presenting sponsor at the Road Scholars 5K and Fun Run, the proceeds of which will benefit all Shrewsbury public schools.

“The way Price Chopper has contributed to our schools has been remarkable,” said Alicia Garbarino, an instrumental member of the Paton Playground fundraising committee who was also involved in planning the Road Scholars event. “Tammie Sullivan was wonderful to work with at the race and we appreciated her help in bringing us the presenting sponsorship. She and fellow employee Kim Nobrega arrived at Oak Street School on race morning with balloons and oranges which they handed out to all the kids following the fun run.”
The store’s commitment to the Paton playground initiative does not end with the May pizza program. Price Chopper has also pledged additional future support including a “pin up” program – a chance for customers to include a playground donation at checkout – which will be implemented at a later date.
“I think it’s going to be a win-win situation for everyone,” Sullivan said.
Price Chopper’s pizzas are available in their deli, where customers can pay on the spot and avoid lines at the front of the store. Pizzas are available hot or cold with various toppings; a generous 12-slice cheese pizza costs $10. Customers can call ahead to order specialty pizzas and eliminate wait time: 508-791-7142.
Price Chopper’s new location is at 731 Boston Turnpike (the junction of Route 9 and South Street) in Shrewsbury. For more information about the promotion, contact Alicia Garbarino at aliciagarbo@comcast.net.
