Shrewsbury Public Health Nurse Wins Statewide Award

SHREWSBURY, MA — A Shrewsbury regional public health nurse has been recognized by a statewide nursing group for work connecting municipal health workers across Massachusetts.

Bridget Hurley, MSN, RN, received the Sheila Miller Memorial Public Health Nurse Award at the 2026 Massachusetts Association of Public Health Nursing conference. She was honored for her work serving Shrewsbury and other Central Massachusetts communities, as well as for helping public health nurses across the state collaborate, according to the town of Shrewsbury.

Hurley is the regional public health nurse for the Central MA Regional Health Department, which serves Shrewsbury, Grafton and West Boylston by handling local public health inquiries and activities related to health and the environment, according to the town health department.

The award is given to a public health nurse for dedication to the Massachusetts Association of Public Health Nursing and excellence in public health nursing.

Shrewsbury officials said Hurley was recognized in part for creating a Discord platform to help public health nurses in different municipalities communicate, network and share ideas. The effort has helped nurses connect with other public health professionals they might not otherwise have reached, according to the town.

Locally, Hurley has worked to keep residents in Shrewsbury, Grafton and West Boylston informed about public health issues affecting the region.

“Our town truly is better for Bridget’s dedication to our community and to public health at large,” Shrewsbury officials said in announcing the award.
