Shrewsbury Teen Leads Cops on Chase, Arraigned on Slew of Charges

A Shrewsbury 19-year-old faces charges after a chase that ended with officers drawing their weapons.

Shaun D. Gray, of 14 Atwood Ln., Shrewsbury, was arraigned Monday in Westborough District Court on charges of operating under the influence, failure to stop for police, a marked lanes violation, speeding, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, defacing or damaging property and assault with a dangerous weapon. 

Shrewsbury officers were alerted just after midnight Sunday by counterparts in West Boylston to be on the lookout for a Dodge Charger that had been clocked driving 87 mph. in a 30 mph. zone. An officer spotted the vehicle on Route 140, where he clocked it reaching speeds of 83 in a 40 mph zone, court records read.

At one point, three cruisers pursued the vehicle through downtown, from Main Street on to Maple St., where a spike strip was deployed to damage the vehicle's tires. Police say after the vehicle came to a stop on Maple Street, they surrounded it, with their weapons drawn, while Gray attempted to ram a cruiser to escape. The vehicle became stuck, however, and Gray was arrested. 

Judge Vito Virzi ordered Gray held on $500 cash bail. He is due back in court on Jan. 23.
