Spring Street Cooks Up a Way to Help Paton Playground

Thanks to the bake sale last week, Spring Street School students donated to the Paton School playground project.

The annual Talent Show had a great showing of support, not only for the performers, but also another elementary school in town.

Though the talent show took place on April Fools' Day, there was no kidding around when it came to the generosity of the students.

When the Student Council and the Spring Street PTO heard about the removal of the Paton School playground earlier this month due to safety concerns, they decided to raise funds for the new playground project.

During the talent show, the Student Council and the Spring Street PTO held a bake sale. All of the proceeds from the bake sale were given to help their neighbors at Paton School build a new playground. A check for more than $400 will be given to the Paton Playground Project. The estimated cost of a new playground is approximately $50,000.

This is a tall order for any school to accomplish on their own, so Spring Street wanted to do their part to help out. Once word got out that the proceeds would go toward the Paton Playground project, the offers to help bake came pouring in.

"We are thrilled to contribute $466 to the Paton Playground Fund in hopes that others will follow suit," said President of the Spring Street PTO Maria Munro. "It is our wish that Paton will recognize their vision of building a new playground to benefit Paton School students and the entire Shrewsbury community."

Not only was the bake sale a huge hit, but those in attendance enjoyed singing, dancing and as well as students showcasing their talents in piano, guitar and violin. For those who ever wondered if the fine art of hula hooping was a skill of the past, the talent show also dispelled that myth.
