Teens Learn to Knit at Library

Knitting is rewarding, one teen says.

Several Shrewsbury teens learned a new hobby in recent weeks.

Through three weekly one-hour sessions at the , participants in the program for teens in grades 8 through 12 learned various basic knitting techniques by creating a bookmark, according to Sharon Martin. Martin is the children's librarian and ran the program, which ended Friday.

"It's fantastic," Martin said of knitting. "It relaxes me. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to make something work."

While the program has ended, Martin said she would like to run another one and that adults have shown interest in learning the hobby as well. 

Participants included sisters Briana Huie, 17, and Kristen Huie, 12.

"Knitting is very useful, I think," Briana said, adding that it is "rewarding when you make something."
