It was a good week for Hockey players in the Shrewsbury area. varsity hockey team shutout Acton-Boxborough 5-0 in their first playoff game. Senior goalie Connor Burdick had 12 saves. Senior Forward Connor McCarron scored twice. The other three goals were scored by sophomore Hunter Burdick, senior Keith Kelly and senior Devin Smith. The Pioneers play in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The girls hockey team needed a little extra time to win their first playoff game. Frank Panarelli and his girls defeated Beverly 4-3 in overtime. Net-minder Steph Folsom made 18 saves. The goals were scored by 8th grader Lauren Ineson, sophomore Samantha DiReda and Breanna Monroe continued her tremendous season with two goals of her own. The girls will face St. Mary's of Lynn today.
The Colonials and the Pioneers represented the #1 and #2 seeds in the district tournament for basketball. They both started their playoff runs at home on Thursday night. However, one team's run would end much earlier than expected. Saint John's defeated Doherty 53-41. Senior Ryan Kelley returned to the floor, wearing a mask after breaking his nose. Kelley scored 11 points and was a spark for the Pioneers. Matt Palecki led all scorers with 16 points. They play Sunday afternoon at WPI in the district semifinals.

The Shrewsbury High boys lost to Fitchburg 68-50. Senior Wil Michalski led Shrewsbury with 16 points. The Colonials have a interesting off-season ahead, as they lose nine seniors, including their entire starting lineup.
The Shrewsbury High girls were also the #1 seed entering their district tournament. After yet another even scoring display from the Lady Colonials, they were able to defeat Doherty 51-33 on Friday night.
