While residents and town officials were surprised to see snow before Halloween, the community came together to respond to the Fall nor'easter.

During the storm, the received 56 phone calls between 5:24 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 and the end of the day on Oct. 30 for downed trees, transformers exploding, trees and branches on wires and roads blocked.

They also received 10 calls for car crashes during the storm and one woman on Baker Avenue had no power, though she needed an oxygen machine.

The town removed trees, branches and debris and restored power to the more than 2,000 homes without power.

By Tuesday, only a handful of residents didn't have power and needed an electrician to come help restore power.

Compared to other communities hit by the storm, SELCO restored power quicker.

The town is now hoping to be reimbursed by FEMA for the estimated $300,000 for the clean up of the town.

"We got 87 percent of the $200,000 clean up after the ice storm in 2008," said Town Manager Dan Morgado. "We are expecting the clean up for this storm, based on estimates, to cost around $300,000 to the town."
