More Than 25 Warren Signs Stolen From Shrewsbury Lawns

According to the Shrewsbury Democratic Committee, a number of Elizabeth Warrenn campaign signs have been stolen.

Elizabeth Warren signs in Shrewsbury were stolen off of their wire frames last week, primarily along Grafton Street and in the Prospect Street area, according to the Shrewsbury Democratic Committee.

"It occurred in other neighborhoods as well," said Jason Palitsch, chair of the Shrewsbury Democratic Committee. "I have replaced many of the signs that were taken. Some of those taken were on lawns with other candidates' signs on them as well; those signs remained intact."

One Warren supporter, according to Palitsch, contacted police after he believed to have seen the thieves.

Sgt. Chuck Pratt said police don't know how many signs were stolen, and that follow-up on the complaint depends if there is enough information to pursue it further.

"It appears in this case that the officers checked the area and they were unable to locate the suspects," said Pratt. "If they had located suspects or more information had been received, we would have followed up."

"I don't know who is responsible," said Palitsch, "though I doubt those responsible were Shrewsbury residents."

Pratt said that stolen campaign signs isn't a common crime, but has occurred several times over the years during elections. Most times, he said, people choose not to report the theft.

The person who observed the theft, said Palitsch, called police to describe the crime, and added that more than 25 Warren signs were taken.

"This is certainly not the first time I have heard of lawn signs disappearing," said Palitsch. "It happens all the time, to all candidates, but it is usually isolated. In this instance, it seems that someone went around town in a vehicle taking many signs down."
