Wine Tasting Fundraiser to Benefit WWI Memorial

Chocolate covered candy, wine tasting and comraderie for $25

What do champagne, many wines, chocolate dipped strawberries and Veteran's have in common? The answer is simple, they will all be communing at Austin Liquors tomorrow night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in an attempt to raise money for the World Ware I Veteran's Flag Pole being erected in front of the Beal School.

Voters approved the project back in mid January, but the Veteran's decided that this would not be a town-funded project, but one they funded on their own with a lot of help from generous members of the community.

As of January, the committee had raised $35,000 with more private donations expected.

"Even though this is not a town funded project," said Arthur Dobson a Veteran who is spearheading the fundraising effort, "the selectmen, the Board of Finance, and just the whole town have been so supportive. That means a lot."

The stone will have a total of eight names engraved, but is reflective of so many more people in town.

The suggested donation of $25 for the wine tasting event will get you chocolate dipped strawberries, fascinating conversation, samplings of several wines and champagne, and a good excuse to purchase Valentine's gifts for your loved ones.

The event, which is sponsored by Austin Liquors and the Shrewsbury Rebuplican Town Committee is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Veteran's project.

If you are unable to attend the event, but wish to donate you may send money to Victor Quaranta American Legion Post #397 World War I Monument Fund P.O. Box 670, Shrewsbury, MA.

According to the flyer,"you are guaranteed an evening of discussion and good times."
