Bond Authorization Approved For Somerville HS: Report

The Board of Aldermen authorized a bond for additions or renovations this week, according to a Somerville Journal report.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The Board of Aldermen voted this week to authorize a bond for additions or renovations at Somerville High School, according to a Somerville Journal report. The vote sets into motion plans for a massive overhaul of the site, on which construction is expected to begin in early 2018.

The project is expected to cost close to $256,000,000. Last month, the Massachusetts School Building Authority approved a grant for the project, which will partially reimburse Somerville for the high school, according to the Journal.

Though Somerville High is already a top-performing school, officials told the Journal the transformation is necessary to foster a "21st century learning" environment.
