Brown School To Remain Closed 'For At Least A Month'

Classes will resume as soon as possible at alternate locations.

In light of Tuesday night’s roof collapse at the Benjamin G. Brown elementary school, classes are canceled for Thursday, March 12.

The building itself won’t reopen for “at least a month,” according to a joint statement from the Somerville Mayor and Superintendent’s Offices. However, officials are making preparations to relocate Brown classes to other Somerville schools while the roof is repaired and reevaluated, so students can resume their studies as soon as possible.

According to the aforementioned statement:

• Kindergarten students will temporarily attend the Capuano Early Childhood Center,

• Grade 1-5 students will be at the Edgerly School.

• Grade 6 students will be at the East Somerville Community School.
