If you’re a sketch writer, performer, director or teacher who is interested in process, experimentation and discovery, this workshop is for you! This full day session will operate like a professional sketch rehearsal with a focus on material generation and productive exploration. Through writing, improvisation and on-our-feet exercises, we’ll play with a range of techniques to create material. Participants will leave with new creative tools, and new ways to approach writing, performing and developing sketch. Participants should have some prior experience with sketch comedy. A comfort with improvisation is a plus. Come ready to play and let’s see what we can make together!
ABOUT ANDY: Andy Miara is a former director for The Second City in Chicago where he also served as a core writing instructor in the Second City Training Center. He is a former head writer of The Onion News Network and co-creator of The Onion’s sister site, Clickhole.com. Alongside Tim Robinson and Mark Raterman, Miara co-founded the sketch group My Mans. The trio developed pilots for Comedy Central and Adult Swim, and created The Thanksgiving House, an immersive theater show in Los Angeles produced by Funny or Die and IFC. Miara has written on animated comedies including Robot Chicken and SuperMansion, and has developed original projects with NBC, TBS, truTV, and Cartoon Network. Most recently, he co-wrote and directed the scripted audio series Get It To Dutch for iHeart Media, and currently has an animated pilot in development at Fox starring Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong. Miara is an Assistant Professor of Screenwriting at Emerson College.

About the Author
Richard Mercado (he/him) is a Filipino cartoonist and graphic designer whose minicomic I Owe It to My Parents to Not Come Out earned him a 2023 Ignatz nomination for Promising New Talent. He has an MFA in sequential art from Savannah College of Art and Design and works as a production artist for Skybound Entertainment. About A Place To Dance:
Who says only girls can twirl and boys must take the lead on the dance floor?
Celebrate same-gender ballroom dancing with renowned dancer Richard Lamberty as he breaks traditional gender roles, while promoting diversity and inclusivity in dance.
When dancer Richard Lamberty was a child, he loved dancing—especially ballroom dancing. But he was always jealous of the moves female dancers got to do. Intrigued by the female dancers’ different steps, Richard developed the skills to dance either role in order to compete with a male partner in the Gay Games in Europe. He then came back to the United States and cofounded April Follies, the longest-running and largest queer partner dance competition in North America.
Richard Lamberty is a two-time world champion ballroom dancer whose story inspires the LGBTQIA+ community to put on their dance shoes and do what they love.
About Eric Rosswood:
Eric Rosswood&nbsp;(he/him) is an author and commentator on LGBTQ issues, including civil rights, parenting, marriage, and politics. He has led panels on LGBTQ parenting issues for organizations such as the Family Equality Council and the Modern Family Alliance. Eric is the coauthor of Strong, a Stonewall Honor book, and the author of My Uncle's Wedding, and Queer Cheer.

ARTIST BIO: Over several decades, Sheriden has acted under Actor’s Equity Contracts in the nation’s regional theatres. Starting in the 70’s, playing ingénues for the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis to Boston’s Moonbox Productions, garnering a Boston Critics Award for Kimberly in Kimberly Akimbo.
Recently, in film, she played two old ladies. One in Tiffany Paulson’s About Fate and another in Eric Aronson’s Any Day Now about the Gardner Museum heist. It’s now streaming on Amazon Prime.
Sheriden has directed and taught acting at Cornell and Southern Methodist Universities.
Since arriving in Boston, she directed plays and readings for Another Country, Queer Soup Productions, and Boston Playwrights’ Theatre.
As Senior Lecturer Emerita, at Tufts University, she taught a variety of acting courses including Advanced Acting Lab, Shakespeare, Mask, Physical Comedy, and Acting as Career. She directed a dozen plays, concluding with an edited video of Jeffrey Hatcher’s delightfully, silly adaptation of The Government Inspector.
Sheriden has directed professionally for the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas, Mother Jones in Chicago, Company Theatre in Los Angeles, Manhattan Class, and WOW Cafe in New York City. She will be directing The Beauty Queen of Leenane for Theater Uncorked this November at Boston Center for the Arts.

About the Authors
Amal El-Mohtar (she/her) is an award-winning author, editor, and critic. Her short story “Seasons of Glass and Iron” won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards and was a finalist for the World Fantasy, Sturgeon, Aurora, and Eugie Foster awards. She is the author of The Honey Month, a collection of poetry and prose written to the taste of twenty-eight different kinds of honey, and contributes criticism to NPR Books and The New York Times. Her fiction has most recently appeared on <a target="_blank" href="https://tor.com/" rel="nofollow noopener">Tor.com</a> and Uncanny Magazine, and in anthologies such as The Djinn Falls in Love &amp; Other Stories and The Starlit Wood: New Fairy Tales. She is presently pursuing a PhD at Carleton University and teaches creative writing at the University of Ottawa. She can be found online at @Tithenai.
Max Gladstone (he/him) is the author of the Hugo-nominated Craft Sequence, which Patrick Rothfuss called “stupefyingly good.” The sixth book, Ruin of Angels, was released this September. Max’s interactive mobile game Choice of the Deathless was nominated for the XYZZY Award, and his critically acclaimed short fiction has appeared on <a target="_blank" href="https://tor.com/" rel="nofollow noopener">Tor.com</a> and in Uncanny Magazine, and in anthologies such as XO Orpheus: Fifty New Myths and The Starlit Wood: New Fairy Tales. John Crowley described Max as “a true star of twenty first century fantasy.” Max has sung in Carnegie Hall and was once thrown from a horse in Mongolia.

There comes a time in every artist’s career when the art form transcends a mere outlet for self-expression and becomes a universal gift to mankind. For some it takes years, for Abby Holliday it was there from the start. Her vulnerable introspection and brutal lyricism combined with mind-bending sonic sensibilities and a distinct production style immediately fused a bond between her and her loyal fan base. Holliday masterfully guides listeners through moments in time extremely specific to her own life that puts words to collective experiences of the human condition, reaching into places we might not have known existed prior.
“Former cheer captain” isn’t something you always see on the resume of a rising, alternative singer-songwriter. For Charli Adams, who grew up across several small towns in rural Alabama, an outward display of optimism might have been the only way to get by.
Charli Adams was born in a dollar-store town in northern Alabama, the kind of place you might hear Kacey Musgraves sing about. “I didn’t grow up in a musical family, but when I wrote my first song it clicked for me,” she says.”| could be melodramatic about my life in a way l hadn’t in any other form of expression. Two East-Coast-via-Ohio based indie projects will be rocking the Rockwell on August 11th with support from a secret special guest!

Lucky Gold Jr. is a folk-rock project led by Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Ellie Fallon, with frequent live and recorded support from her sibling Mimi Fallon on bass, and producer, instrumentalist, &amp; friend Ollie Peterson. Fallon has anchored her sound to nostalgia’s ephemera, unraveling unique experiences with familiar language. She writes about everything from failure to fandom with a perspective informed by hope, and a sound inspired by her collaborators and musical fixations alike.
Oliver Peterson, under the name Werewolf, records alone from his carpet-padded garage in Stamford, Connecticut. Through one-wire systems, meticulously-crafted ambient textures, and natural melodic sensibilities, Peterson produces a sophisticated sound that ascends the parts of its sum, and escapes time and place while kneeling in worship to it. Werewolf marries the grounded – acoustic guitars, crunchy drums, raw vocals – with the ethereal – swirling drones, surreally visceral lyricism, abstract visual components – to build a dream pop, shoegaze, indie-rock vision that is entirely his own.

About The Flayed Man
Ellis Karsten spends nights working triage in the ER and days having the same conversation with her mom. The early onset dementia is exhausting, but the real challenge is their curse—Ellis’s family must feed daily on blood, or risk becoming mindless, skinless killing machines. When Ellis’s uncle, who supplies their blood, vanishes, she takes it upon herself to find a new source, aided by a prickly paramedic who’s equal parts unpredictable and intoxicating. But as Ellis fights to balance her bloodthirsty nature with a new relationship, her mom’s impossible demands transform into panicked warnings that a fabled monster, “The Flayed Man,” is stalking them.
As she traverses the desert in search of blood, Ellis risks her safety and her family’s secret, until it becomes clear that her mom is right: something ancient and hungry is hunting them, and it has come for her mom. Blood hunger begins to overtake Ellis, transforming her body into something ghoulish and frightening—exactly what The Flayed Man wants. In the end, she must decide who to trust, what she’s willing to sacrifice, and whether she is worthy of a life, and love, beyond her curse—or if she’s going to succumb to instinct and ravage the world.
About the Authors
CHLOE LAUTER’s debut novel The Flayed Man&nbsp;has been praised by Kirkus, Booklist and&nbsp;Library Journal, is one of Debutiful’s&nbsp;Most Anticipated Books of the Year, and an August 2026 Indie Next pick. Chicago Review of Books called it “everything you want in a literary horror novel.”
Her work explores monstrosity, autonomy and embodiment through a horror lens. Originally from Seattle, she now lives in Los Angeles.
Makana Yamamoto was born on the island of Maui. Splitting their time between the Mainland and Hawaiʻi, Makana grew up on beaches and in snowbanks. Always a scientist at heart, Makana fell in love with sci-fi as a teen. A writer from childhood, fiction became the perfect medium for them to explore their interests as well as reconnect with their culture. Makana’s debut novel, HAMMAJANG LUCK, is a 2024 Locus Award Finalist. In their free time, Makana likes to hoard dice for their Dungeons &amp; Dragons games, defeat bosses with their guildmates, and get way too invested in reality competition shows. They currently live in Boston with their wife and two cats.

Meaghan and Shane Carpenter are the co-founders of <a href="https://www.hexferments.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">HEX Ferments</a>, a Baltimore-based fermentation company producing raw sauerkrauts, kimchis, pickles, and kombucha using locally sourced ingredients. What began as home fermentation projects, food preservation classes, and a shared interest in art, agriculture, and traditional foodways grew into Baltimore's first licensed producer of traditionally fermented foods. Since 2013, HEX Ferments has earned multiple Good Food Awards and recognition from Slow Food International for preserving authentic fermentation practices.
