Adventures Close to Home is an exhibition and auction being presented by Boston Lady Fest and the Snow Project at Washington Street Art Center in Somerville, MA during the month of January, 2012. It serves to showcase the work of a wide community of local feminist artists who have donated their work to Ladyfest Boston. It is part of a series of benefits being held to raise money for the room cost and cover other expenses for the Fest.
Ladyfest Boston is a three day festival taking place on Feb. 3-5, 2012, at the Cambridge, Massachusetts YMCA. Over the course of that weekend, we’ll host an opening potluck, local vendors, musical performances, workshops and a brunch. We will be representing women in the arts and community through our showcase of bands, performances, and workshops that will speak to issues concerning feminism and gender. All proceeds from the tickets purchased for Fest itself will be donated to the Eastern Massachusetts Abortion Access Fund.
The opening for Adventures Close to Home will be on Friday January 13th from 7-11pm. We will have Ladyfest committee and guest DJs, snacks, beer, and a lot of fun! During the month of January alongside the exhibition and auction Ladyfest and the Snow Project are also presenting two benefit events being held at Washington Street Art Center. A screening of “Who Took the Bomp?: Le Tigre on Tour” will be held Sunday January 22nd at 4pm with a suggested door donation and free popcorn. The auction will be open to all who attend the screening. On Saturday, January 28th, we will be hosting a noise/experimental show showcasing local acts Donna Parker (last Boston show before she moves to Cleveland!), Citizens for Confetti (Linda Aubry Bullock), Undeveloped Piles (Amy Mills), Pataphor (Shannon Smith), and Avoidance, which is Ladyfest organizer Chris Strunk and Noell Dorsey. Again, the auction will be open to all who attend.
The Washington Street Art Center is located at 321 Somerville Ave. Somerville, MA 02143.
