Three people in a unique Pacific Island community face the first devastating effects of climate change, including a terrifying flood.  Will they decide to stay with their island home or move to a new and unfamiliar land, leaving their culture and language behind forever?

Shot over four years on the Takuu Atoll off the coast of Papua New Guinea, There Once Was an Island examines the ever-changing and very personal debate vexing clans indigenous to the flood-stricken and fast-eroding island chain. With negligible provisions arriving from the mainland and no government strategy for relocation, the Takuu community looks to ocean scientists to assess the viability of remaining on their homeland. The stories of three islanders poignantly highlight the direct impact of climate change in the South Pacific.
