About Prospect Hill Academy Charter School

Prospect Hill Academy Charter School (PHA) was founded in 1996 by a diverse group of community members with the mission to prepare each student for success in college, to inspire a lifelong love of learning, and to foster responsible citizenship. The K-12 tuition-free school is located on three campuses in Somerville and Cambridge and serves nearly 1,200 students from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.   62% of the students come from low-income families as defined by free and reduced lunch documentation.

PHA nearly doubles its students’ prospects of attending college. 95% of PHA graduates matriculate to four-year colleges, the majority being the first in their family to do so. In 2008 and 2009 Prospect Hill Academy earned a Silver Medal designation by US News and World Report placing it among the top 3% of all American high schools.  All students in the Classes of 2006-2011 have passed the 10th grade MCAS exams on their first attempt and their MCAS performance has consistently ranked in the top 10% statewide.
