From Titian's 16th-century Venus to Andy Warhol's iconic 20th-century Mickey Mouse, artists have long been inspired by fictional characters of mythology and culture. This group show features the work of 12 artists working in a range of mediums including installation to sculpture; drawing
to collage. Their work ranges from Lindsey Randolph’s highly interpretive drawings inspired by Sponge Bob Squarepants to Samuel Rowlett’s humor-filled drawings referencing the Wolfman and other storybook characters. 3D work includes a Flash Gordon inspired rocketship by
Somerville’s own Skunk as well as Leika Akiyama’s installation “Spawneze” made up of the fictional offspring of Godzilla and pregnant Barbie.
