Feds Vow $1 Billion for Green Line Extension Project
The project, which will extend the Green Line to Somerville and Medford, is expected to cost $2.297 billion.

The acting head of the Federal Transit Authority pledged $996 million to the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority for the Green Line Extension Project in a letter to Congress Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe.
The federal funds will cover roughly 43 percent of the $2.297 billion project, with state bonds and $305 million in state operating funds covering the rest, according to the report.
The project will extend the Green Line six stops and nearly 5 miles from Lechmere Square in East Cambridge to Somerville’s Union Square and College Avenue in Medford. Service is expected to start in the summer of 2021.
