Halloween Happenings In Somerville 2017

'Tis the ghostly season! Grab your calendars, and save the dates for the sweet and spooky events coming up in town.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Things are getting spooky again in Somerville. The city will host two Halloween events in the coming weeks, starting with the October installment of the SomerStreets festival, "Monster Mashed Up." The event will take place Sunday, Oct. 22 from 2-6 p.m. on Somerville Avenue between Union Square and Spring Street.

Here's what's in store along Somerville Avenue:

  • Live music on three stages

Conway Park Stage (559 Somerville Ave): featuring The Sunset Kings, School of HONK, and Boston Cream

Mass Ave. music stage (487 Somerville Ave) with the Mass Ave. Music All-Stars, The Silks, The Rainflowers (Jimi Hendrix tribute), and We Can’t Work It Out (Beatles tribute)

Oktoberfest beer garden and stage (337 Somerville Ave.) sponsored by PA's and Sally O'Brien's with food from the Nibble Entrepreneurs.

  • Costume parade and showcase for all ages (kicks off st Hawkins St. and Somerville Ave. at 3 p.m.)
  • Doggy costume contest with River Dog (321 Somerville Ave.)
  • Ghosts of Somerville tour of Milk Row Cemetery (400 Somerville Avenue) 3-4:30 p.m. with Historic Somerville

To ensure public safety at the event, the following road closures and parking bans will be in effect:

  • Somerville Ave. (Hawkins St. to Spring St.): Closed to all vehicular traffic noon - 7 p.m.; no parking 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Laurel St., School St., Quincy St., Church St., and Putnam St.will become two way streets between Summer St. and Somerville Ave. from noon to 8 p.m. to allow access for abutters.
  • MBTA bus 87 will be rerouted from noon to 7 p.m. For locations of rerouted bus stops, visit MBTA.com.

Following the "Monster Mashed Up," the Haunted Hall will return to the City Hall concourse Thursday, Nov. 2 from 6-8 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature a costumed Halloween Stroll, safe Trick-or- Treating, games and activities, refreshments, a Haunted “Hallway” tour and more.

Youngsters are invited to participate in the annual “Halloween Stroll,” stepping off at 6:15 p.m. Costumes are encouraged for all ages, and all “haunted” elements will be appropriate for attendees of all ages.

In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Somerville High gymnasium.
