Johnny D's Closing Doors For Good
After 47 years of live music and brunches, the Somerville staple is calling it quits today.
SOMERVILLE, MA - It's closing time for Johnny D's, but the local live music landmark is appropriately going with a bang.
Johnny D's will close up its doors after 47 years of joining together food and music in one of the most unique and eclectic experiences around, making it the latest longtime music joint to shut down in the Greater Boston area.
This afternoon owner Carla DeLellis will lock up one last time and lead a second line brass band parade through Davis Square - a fitting end to one of the neighborhood's cultural leaders over the last half-century.

There wasn't anything overtly spectacular about sitting down to a weekend brunch with live jazz bopping on stage - one of Johnny D's signatures over the years - but it had became a comfortable Somerville staple.
The spot became the spot in the 1980s as the the Red Line popped up in town and the music room expanded into a full restaurant. But it was always the menu of performers, rather than dishes, that kept Johnny D's ahead of the game.
