Necco Brands, Equipment Getting Auctioned Off
The sale has been called the "biggest candy auction of the 21st century."

REVERE, MA – The dismantling of the New England Confectionery Co. continues this week as its parts are sold at an online auction. The sale, which takes place Wednesday and Thursday, will include equipment from the company's Revere plant and four brands: Mighty Malt Milk Balls, Haviland Thin Mints, Sky Bar, and Peach Blossoms, the Boston Globe reported.
More than 250 bidders are registered. Jim Greenberg, co-president of one of the firms managing the auction, told the Globe it's being called "the biggest candy auction of the 21st century."
Necco, which claimed to be the longest continuously operating candy company in the country, abruptly closed its factory in July, months after it was sold at a bankruptcy auction. The company was the largest employer in Revere with about 230 workers but struggled to keep up with rising rents in the city.

Necco announced in March it would shut down its headquarters if it couldn't find a buyer and filed for bankruptcy the following month. It was bought by Round Hill Investments, who sold it to an undisclosed buyer ahead of the plant's closure.
According to the Boston Globe, several of the more notable Necco brands, including Sweethearts, the Clark Bar and Necco wafers, have already been sold and may see a resurgence.
