New Somerville Stop & Shop Giving Away $1,000 in Prizes

The new Stop & Shop in West Somerville opens Friday, and there will be celebrations and prize giveaways all weekend.

Stop & Shop is celebrating the opening of its new store in West Somerville with a grand-opening ceremony Friday.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., and the public is invited.

Stop & Shop is moving into 105 Alewife Brook Parkway, the site formerly occupied by Johnnie's Foodmaster, another supermarket that closed in November of 2012.

According to an announcement from Stop & Shop, the store will be celebrating its opening all weekend with prize giveaways and children's activities.

Friday through Sunday, customers who buy Stop & Shop- and Nature's Promise-brand food could win a $10 gift card, the announcement says. It says the store will be giving out $1,000 worth of cards.

Also over the weekend, Sally the Clown will be on hand to make balloon animals and conduct puppet shows for kids. Sally will be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., the announcement says.
