• Somerville Agrees To 3-Year Contract With Firefighters Union (patch.com) — Somerville has finalized a three-year contract with the Firefighters Association of Somerville Local 76, locking in raises, higher stipends, and new cancer-screening support through 2029. The deal also expands sick time flexibility, paid maternity leave, and emergency medical response stipends, which city officials say better reflect firefighters' growing medical responsibilities while providing financial predictability for Somerville taxpayers.
   

• Somerville Civilian Oversight back in the spotlight (thesomervilletimes.com) — Somerville's long-promised civilian oversight of the police is back before the City Council as a brief mayoral update, despite six years of debate and task force work. Residents overwhelmingly support a strong oversight commission, but union contracts, state law, and upcoming council resignations could shape how much power any new board actually has.
   

• Join the Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals (thesomervillenewsweekly.blog) — Somerville is looking for a new resident to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the body that decides key development permits and variances across city neighborhoods. If you're interested in shaping local projects, you'll need about 10–15 hours a month and must apply by Friday, October 30 with a resume and letter of interest.
