Manhunt For Somerville Bank Robber Who Shot At Cops: PD

SOMERVILLE, MA — Police continue to search for a bank robbery suspect who shot at officers in Somerville Wednesday morning. The suspect exchanged gunfire with police during a robbery at the Middlesex Federal Savings Bank on College Avenue just before 10 a.m., police said. No one was hit, and the suspect fled the area on foot, according to police.

He is described as a 20-35-year-old Hispanic man standing 5 feet 10 inches, with a medium to heavy build. He was wearing a black stocking hat, camouflage jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers.

Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone said the suspect is "dangerous" and has "no regard for human life," according to 7-News. Surveillance video from a nearby business showed the man running into a pedestrian and dropping a black bag on the ground shortly after the robbery.

He was still at large as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Roads and public transportation were shut down as officers searched nearby homes and a police helicopter canvassed the area, according to social media reports. Residents and students were urged to use caution, stay indoors and report any suspicious activity to police.

A person of interest in the case was detained and is cooperating, police said. State Police and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
