RESULTS: State Rep., 34th Middlesex District, Democratic Primary
Four candidates squared off in the Democratic Primary Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Christine Barber won the Democratic Primary on Tuesday for the 34th Middlesex District State Representative seat, which was vacated by Carl Sciortino in April, according to her campaign.

Barber, a Somerville resident who works at Community Catalyst, defeated Erin DiBenedetto, a Medford School Committee member, Craig Rourke, a Somerville attorney, and Sharon Guzik, who ended her campaign in early August but still appeared on the ballot.
Sciortino left his post after nine years to become the executive director of AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts.

Barber will now face off against Medford’s Nick Lanzilli, an independent candidate, in the election on Tuesday, Nov. 4. No Republican is running for the seat.
The 34th Middlesex District covers the following wards and precincts: Wards 4 and 5, precinct 1 of Ward 7 and precinct 2 of Ward 8 in Medford, and Wards 4 and 7 in Somerville.
