Teen Shoots 12-Year-Old In Taunton After Online Feud: Police

A 13-year-old allegedly shot another boy in the arm with his mother's rifle Monday afternoon.

TAUNTON, MA – A feud between a 13-year-old and a 12-year-old boy in Taunton culminated in the teen allegedly shooting the boy Monday afternoon, police said. Police responded to the 100 block of Highstone Street around 12:13 p.m. on Monday for reports of a shooting. Officers found the boy with a single shot to his left arm; the bullet had entered his arm, gone through his elbow and lodged in his lower rib cage, according to police.

The boy is in stable condition at the hospital as of Tuesday morning, MassLive reported.

Police said the two boys had reportedly been feuding on Facebook prior to the shooting and live close to one another. The teen was allegedly with a group of juveniles at a home on Highstone Street around the time of the shooting.

The 13-year-old, who claimed he felt threatened, went home, took a rifle from the gun case and allegedly shot the other boy in the woods, according to the department.

The gun is legally owned by the teen's mom and was in a locked safe, according to MassLive.

The 13-year-old was arrested at his house on Rhode Island Road and charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a loaded firearm without a license and discharging a weapon within 500 feet of a dwelling.
