Caramel French Patisserie held a soft opening Saturday in Davis Square.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A former pawn shop in Davis Square has turned from buying gold to selling pastries. Salem-based Caramel French Patisserie held a soft opening Saturday at 233 Elm Street in Davis Square, which once housed LBC Boutique & Loan before the pawn shop moved to 260 Elm Street.
First reported by Boston Magazine, the shop announced its soft opening in a Facebook post late last week. It is the second location for Caramel French Patisserie, which first opened in Salem under siblings Dimitri and Sophie Vallier.
The Valliers' family history history in the patisserie business dates back to 1931 in France; according to Cambridge Day, Dimitri was raised in South Central France and studied under several world-renowned chefs.
