Sciortino to Launch Congressional Campaign Wednesday
State Rep. Carl Sciortino will kick off his campaign on the State House steps.

Somerville State Rep. Carl Sciortino isn’t wasting any time.
On the heels of U.S. Rep. Ed Markey’s Tuesday victory, Sciortino will officially launch his campaign for Markey’s congressional seat at noon Wednesday, on the Statehouse steps, according to an email from his campaign.
Sciortino, who represents parts of Somerville and Medford in the 34th Middlesex District, announced his intentions to run for the seat in February and has had the campaign website www.carlforcongress.com since then.

Although he represents Somerville as a state representative, the 5th Congressional District he's seeking to represent does not include Somerville.
The 34-year-old Medford resident and Tufts University graduate has said he expects it to be a “crowded primary” for Markey's congressional seat.

Sciortino, who was first elected to the state legislature in 2004, is serving his fifth term.
Markey, who has held his congressional seat since 1976, defeated Republican Gabriel Gomez Tuesday for Secretary of State John Kerry’s former Senate seat.
